WoodBeQuiet™ planks at home in Frog Design office studio by Perkins&Will

Frog Design

Frog Design reached out to Perkins&Will to redesign their 18,000 square-foot collaborative workplace studio in Austin, Texas.

The brief was to reinvigorate the space in line with frog design’s innovative brand, whilst also accommodating their growing workforce and shifting need for hybrid work. Brent Arnold, Interior Project Designer at Perkins&Will, was one of a small group of designers tasked with tackling this project; to deliver a beautiful but functional hybrid work layout. Brent’s challenge would be to inspire collaborative work in the office, while also accommodating spaces for solitary, focused work.

Understanding the important role acoustics plays in facilitating different workstyles, Brent knew this project demanded sufficient soundscaping attention.

Acoufelt’s WoodBeQuiet™ acoustic ceiling planks in color ‘Wine Barrel’ became an integral feature in the office design. The wood-printed planks add a rustic, warm contrast to the hard concrete finishes of the floor and walls, whilst also providing comprehensive acoustic absorption across the various communal areas.

The slender design of the tile furthermore allowed room for conduit and other infrastructure to be installed behind it for a clean, open-to-structure ceiling.

Since the launch of the new fit-out, Brent tells Acoufelt he has received numerous compliments on the design and use of this multi-functional product, many stating they thought the planks were real wood.

Unlike real wood, however, Acoufelt’s WoodBeQuiet™ planks achieve an acoustic NRC rating of 0.45, and are made from more than 60% recycled material – delivering on both function and sustainability.
