Acoufelt multi-colored acoustic panels feature in the pavilion-style learning hub at Fern Bay Public School

Fern Bay Public School

Acoufelt was pleased to work with School Infrastructure NSW to manufacture the new timber learning hub at Fern Bay Public School. The project has delivered four home bases, a practical activities area, a quiet room and a new covered outdoor area for the growing school community.

Acoufelt’s full color FilaSorb™ acoustic panels in a mix of ‘Carrot’, ‘Oregano’ and ‘Denim’ were used to cover parts of the wall and ceiling across the school’s collaborative learning spaces. The panels were selected for their NRC value of 0.45, as well as for the continuation of color they provide throughout the space. Panels are also ‘pinnable’, as well as comprised of minimum 60% recycled PET content.

The new building is designed to allow teachers to co-teach and use engaging teaching practices, allowing for individualised learning and collaboration. The new pavilion learning hub was constructed using kit of parts methodology, which used engineered mass timber to rapidly deliver the permanent learning spaces. It was the first of its kind for educational infrastructure in Australia.

The pre-fabricated nature of the pavilion enabled Fern Bay Public School to be upgraded and installed in a matter of weeks, with a total construction time of 12 weeks, including just 6 weeks of on-site assembly. Not only this, but the introduction of fluid collaboration spaces, inspiring visual design and acoustic functionality will help to transform the education experience for both students and teachers at Fern Bay.
